Search engine marketing – SEM

SEM stands for Search Engine Marketing, and are adverts that appear in search results. When you search for a phrase on Google and find a result labelled ‘ad’, it’s because of SEM.

Google Ads is one of the most common SEM products, but there are also alternatives such as Google Shopping, paid advertising on YouTube and other channels.

How does digital advertising work?

Unlike SEO, SEM allows you to easily choose the target audience, geographic location, time of day and budget level of the selected keywords and campaigns. There is also a good overview of revenue and other statistics, so that adverts and audiences can be adjusted.
